The end of one year and the beginning of another is usually a slow news period, and so there are only three things you need to know about as we start 2022. And all three things are about food.
Coming Sooner
Bistro49 Southern Bites is making good progress on getting its new restaurant in Sutter Creek ready to open. The new location at 15 Eureka Street was once home to Susan’s Place and most recently Feist Wines, and you’ll be able to eat there sooner than you expected.
The Bistro49 website says the restaurant will open on Friday, February 4, but a December 24 post on their Facebook profile page says the restaurant will open in mid-January. Restaurant staff hasn’t posted a Facebook update since Christmas Eve, so there is no firm opening date as of this writing.
The Ticker will have an update on its social media pages once there is a set date, and we’re looking forward to eating there and publishing a food review in the first quarter of 2022.
Martha’s Two Moves
Last month, Martha’s All Natural Baking Mixes moved from its previous location in Martell Plaza to combine its operations with the other business it owns: The Caterer’s Kitchen. Both businesses are located at 535 South Highway 49, Suite 3, in Jackson. (That’s in Jackson Creek Plaza.) But the move is only temporary.
In March, owner Roylene Brown will move to North Carolina and take Martha’s with her. Brown said that she’s moving to take care of her family. As of this writing, the future of the Caterer’s Kitchen is unknown. For now, The Caterer’s Kitchen and Martha’s are still operating, and you can view the Martha’s website for more information. We’ll have more news about this move as we get it.
A New Grill
El Mira Mar Mexican Restaurant in Martell is no more. The doors are locked, and several paper flyers are taped to the windows and doors announcing a new restaurant coming to that space sometime this month: Vallarta Grill.
From the fictitious business name statement published in the Amador Ledger-Dispatch and looking at the Vallarta Grill Facebook profile page, the signs point to Vallarta Grill being the restaurant’s second location. Vallarta Grill has operated in Oroville since 2017 and has an aggregate review rating of 4.5 stars on Yelp. Their 2020 menu posted on Yelp shows the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The flyers on the window state that people who dine at Vallarta Grill in January will receive 20 percent off their bill. However, as of this writing, the El Mira Mar banner is still above the restaurant space at 11310 Prospect Drive. If the restaurant opens in January as promised, we’ll be sure to visit and publish a review in our February food digest.
